Oz Lotto- The Game with $2 Million and a Huge Jackpot to Win
Keno is a fun game where your choicest numbers can make you a millionaire. One of such lottery games widely popular in Australia is the Oz Lotto. It was in 1994 that Oz Lotto was made a national lotto game. Also it holds the record for the largest ever Australian lottery prize, with four winners each taking a share of AU$111,972,151 in November 2012. Oz Lotto was initially played as a 6/45 game with five prize divisions, but in October 2005 an extra number was added to the winning line and two new prize tiers were created. Wondering how to play Oz Lottery, let us learn some basics of the game and know how to play this favourite lottery.
The number of balls that are drawn in Oz Lotto
Oz Lotto numbers are drawn from a machine containing 45 balls, numbered from 1 to 45 inclusive. For a standard game, you choose 7 numbers from this range.
In total, 9 balls are drawn of which the first 7 are the winning numbers. The last 2 balls are the supplementary numbers. These supplementary balls are used to determine prizes in Divisions 2, 4 and 7. The chance of winning a Division One prize in Oz Lotto is 1 in 45,379,620
Three ways to play Oz Lottery
Standard Game
A standard game refers to each standard line of numbers you select for a lotto game. Each standard game you play offers you a chance of winning one prize.
Syndicate Game
An Oz Lotto syndicate (or group play) entry allows you to join an Oz Lotteries Syndicate which enables you to share System entries and prizes with other players. Syndicates allow you to cover more numbers by sharing the cost between the members of a group. Playing more games increases the chance of winning a prize. If the syndicate ticket wins a prize, the total winnings will be divided equally among all of the members of the syndicate.
System Game
A system allows you to play more numbers than for a standard entry providing you with an entry covering every combination of the numbers you have chosen. This type of entry allows players to increase their chances of winning a prize by playing a wider range of number combinations.
For example, to win Division 1 in Oz Lotto, you need all seven winning numbers. To increase your chances of winning, you could play a System 9 which means you get to choose nine numbers for that game rather than the usual seven which is equivalent to 36 standard games.
Just need to have an Oz Lotto coupon and select your numbers. Mark 8 – 20 numbers in each game panel (e.g mark 9 numbers for a System 9 Entry etc) Play 1 – 50 games on a QuickPick coupon or play 1 – 18 games on a marked coupon. Mark the “System/Pick” check box on your coupon or select this option when you buy Oz Lotto online.
How to play Oz Lotto
First you need to buy the lotto ticket. Each Game costs $2.20 (Approx. $1.57). You can have the lottery tickets either online here or at Tatts Lottery or even can buy the ticket from the retailer at the store.

Online tickets are stored in a secure system, meaning that they can never be stolen, damaged or lost. If you win a prize, you will be notified shortly after the draw.
Now you choose seven numbers from 1 to 45 and must match all seven numbers drawn on the night in order to win the Division 1 prize. Two more balls, referred to as Supplementary Numbers, are then chosen from the same pool and can boost your winnings in certain prize tiers.
Draws for Oz Lotto take place on Tuesdays at 8.30pm AEST and the winning numbers are available to view soon after at the Oz Lotto Results page.
As said above in total, 9 balls are drawn of which the first 7 are the winning numbers. The last 2 balls are the supplementary numbers. These supplementary balls are used to determine prizes in Divisions 2, 4 and 7.
